Eastern Thunder Women Rise to the Occasion at SCC 7’s 2025
SCC 7’s | Women’s Open | Eastern Thunder 1 – 1 Albirex Women
In what turned out to be one of the standout matches of the Women’s Open category at the SCC 7’s 2025, Eastern Thunder Women put on a display of resilience, confidence, and quality, holding Albirex Women — the 2024 WPL Runners-Up — to an exciting 1-1 draw in their opening fixture.
The match started with Albirex applying early pressure, and their experience at the top of the Women’s Premier League showed. After a quick series of attacking plays, they broke the deadlock with a well-worked goal in the first half, forcing Eastern to regroup and refocus.
Despite the setback, the Thunder ladies didn’t back down. As the second half kicked off, they began to grow into the game — stringing passes together, tightening up defensively, and showing belief. Their persistence was finally rewarded when Kylie, one of Eastern’s rising stars, struck a brilliant volley past the Albirex goalkeeper, levelling the score and igniting the crowd.
The goal shifted the momentum. Eastern Thunder pushed for a late winner, and in the dying moments, it almost came. A corner kick led to a scramble in front of goal, and the ball was heading over the line — until Albirex’s player-coach, Kitihara Kana, made a heroic goal-line clearance, lunging desperately to keep her side from defeat.

For Eastern Thunder Women, this result is more than just a draw. It’s a statement — a message that they can stand toe-to-toe with some of the best in the league. With such a strong performance against a top-tier opponent, they’ve set the tone for the rest of the tournament.👏 Well done, ladies! Keep flying the Thunder flag high!
