Eastern Thunder FC’s Women’s Team returned from Hong Kong with pride after an outstanding performance at the Hong Kong FC Standard Chartered Soccer Sevens 2025, held from 16–18 May at the prestigious Hong Kong Football Club. Competing against elite clubs from across the region, the team displayed tactical discipline, mental toughness, and unwavering spirit throughout the three-day tournament, ultimately finishing as Women’s Plate Runner-Up.
The campaign began on 16 May, with Eastern Thunder FC opening the group stage with a 1–1 draw against Kitchee FC, a well-organized and technically sharp side. Later that evening, they took on English outfit Wrexham AFC, narrowly falling 0–1 in a gritty, hard-fought match. In their third game of the day, the team faced tournament hosts Hong Kong FC, putting on another confident display to earn a 1–1 draw.
On 17 May, the team came up against Chonburi FC. Despite a determined effort, they suffered a 0–1 loss in a closely contested match. In the final group fixture, Eastern Thunder battled TSL to a 0–0 draw, showing solid defensive shape and composure under pressure.
With three draws and two narrow losses, Eastern Thunder advanced into the Women’s Plate competition, where they continued their momentum all the way to the finals.
In the Plate Final vs Hong Kong FC, Eastern Thunder put in a determined performance in a match. At 5 minutes and 29 seconds, the team nearly took the lead with a shot that rattled the post. In the final minute of the first half, goalkeeper Nur Izyan made a crucial save to keep the score level. Despite numerous chances, the game ended 0–0 at full time, pushing the contest into a penalty shootout. In a tense finish, Eastern Thunder narrowly lost 1–2 on penalties.
The players received their Women’s Plate Runner-Up medals with pride after a weekend of standout performances, strong teamwork, and unwavering spirit on international ground. This experience not only showcased the growing strength of the team but also reinforced Eastern Thunder FC’s commitment to high-level competition and development.
